With reference to your letter of the 16 Inst reporting the completion of the Lighthouses on Vancouver's Island and the expenditure of about £1000 over and above the sum of £7752 already sanctioned for expenditure in the Colony on this work—I am directed by the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury to acquaint you for the information of the Duke of Newcastle that My Lords have been pleased, under the circumstances, to authorize the Board of Trade to accept such Bills as may be drawn for this service in excessofManuscript image of the amount already sanctioned to the extent of £1000—the sum to be added to the Estimate for Lighthouses abroad 1861-2 now under preparation.
