Attorney General for British Columbia, replacing Cary, who has been
appointed Attorney General for Vancouver Island.

Mr George Hunter Cary Attorney General for British Columbia having
at his own request been superseded in that appointment by Mr Henry
P. Pellew Crease, I have the honor to acquaint Your Grace that in
pursuance ofthe

Attorney General for the Colony of Vancouvers Island.

It is difficult to judge correctly when not on the spot but according to what we know here of the absence of crime in B. Columbia I should have considered that Mr Fortescue's proviso in the draft of the Duke of Newcastle's despatch of the 15 June No 82 ought to have been a sufficient reason against the appointment of Mr Crease as Attorney Genl (vice Mr Cary) in that Colony. But see the minutes on 5477/61.
