I have the honor to forward herewith copy of a Requisition I have
received from the Acting Colonial Surveyor for Stores and Articles
required for service of the Light Houses on thisCoast Coast, and I trust
Your Grace will have the Kindness to cause the necessary instructions
to be given for these Stores to be shipped in the first Vessel bound
for this Port.
I have the honor to be
My Lord Duke
Your Grace's most obedient
and humble Servant James Douglas
Minutes by CO staff
Mr Elliot
I believe the Board of Trade is the proper Dt to supply these
Articles for the Light Houses?
Mr Elliot
The Board of Trade want to know before ordering these stores, how
they are to be paid for. The cost of maintaining the Lighthouses
must I suppose be divided (as in the case of one moiety of the cost
of erecting them) between the 2 Colonies—B. Columbia & Vancouver Island. As soon therefore as the cost is ascertained the Agents
General should be instructed to pay for the stores, & the Governor
directed to remit the amount?
