I beg to acknowledge with thanks your reply to my letter of the
13 Ult. addressed to his Grace the
Duke of Newcastle for information
respecting
Vancouvers Island and also for the maps & surveyors
report accompanying the same. The latter has afforded me much
information that will prove valuable to me when in the colony. My
present intention however being to settle in the
district of Victoria
or one of those adjoining thereto, may I ask without being considered
troublesome
to be favoured with maps of that part of the country & if
possible also the surveyors report. I am reluctant thus to trouble
you, but [my] intention is to leave this country if possible this
month—and every bit of information will be to me of the greatest
importance.
