provision for placing the
Detachment of Royal Marines landed at
San Juan under suitable shelter
before the inclemency of the winter season came on, a necessity I
fully concurred in, the Detachment being under Canvas, and the Tents
not of the most suitable or commodious description, I have the honor
to acquaint Your Grace that, feeling assured I should be

acting in
accordance with the wishes of Her Majesty's Government, I have
approved of a requisition made upon me by the Admiral for the
construction of temporary, but sufficiently warm and comfortable,
wooden Buildings, to serve as a Barracks.
2. The most rigid economy will be observed in the undertaking, but I
shall be obliged to draw upon

the Imperial Treasury for the sum of
about one thousand Pounds (£1000) to enable me to carry out the
work, and I trust Your Grace will obtain the necessary Authority from

Lords of the Treasury that the Bills may be accepted, and paid
when they become due.
