I transmit to you herewith for your information copies of a
               correspondence between the 
War Office, the 
Foreign Office, the 
Admiralty
               and this Office on the subject of a suggestion made by 
Lieutenant
                  Colonel Hawkins that
that the Land, Buildings &c purchased in 
Vancouvers
                  Island for the use of the Surveying Party under his command should when
               the duties of the Commission are closed be transferred to the Colonial
               Government at a valuation instead of being disposed of to private
               parties.
               
               I have to request that in conformity with the wish of the Lords
               
Commissioners of the Admiralty expressed in their letter, of the

will ascertain from the Senior Naval Officer on the Station
               whether it is advisable that the Land in question should be secured for
               Naval purposes.
