I am commanded by my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to send you
herewith for the information of Her Majesty's Secretary of State for
the Colonies, a Copy of a Letter from Rear Admiral Baynes dated the
12th Ultimo, No 110, with Copies of its enclosures, relative to the
Military occupation by the United States of the Island of San Juan in
the Canal de Haro.

Baynes to Secretary to the Admiralty, 12 August 1859,
reporting the state of affairs at San Juan and enclosing related
correspodence.
Douglas to Baynes, 12 August 1859, requesting that a navy vessel
be despatched to overtake the San Francisco mail steamer in order
that Brigadier General Harney's letter might be communicated to
England as quickly as possible.
Harney to Douglas, 6 August 1859, explaining his reasons for
ordering the occupation of San Juan.
