Abstract

Storks transmits a letter to the CO from the Deputy Adjutant General of the Royal Engineers respecting the pay and allowances of the detachment sent to British Columbia. He asks that Lytton furnish General Peel with the necessary information to answer the enquiries of the letter.
Enclosed is a draft reply from Merivale to the Under Secretary of the War Office providing the information requested and denying that the Colonial Office had ever authorized extra allowances for Colonial pay; and Gordon to Military Secretary requesting more information.

Sir,
With reference to your Letter of the 18th inst I am directed by the Secretary of State for War to transmit to you, this enclosed copy of a Letter from the Deputy Adjutant General of Royal Engineers respecting the pay and allowances of the Detachment of that Corps under orders to proceed to New Columbia; and to request that Manuscript imageyou will move Sir E B Lytton to furnish General Peel with the necessary information to enable him to answer the enquiries therein contained.
