Sir,

I am desired by the Directors of the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of yesterday's date and in reply to inform you that the necessary instructions will be issued to carry into effect the detention of La Plata until the arrival of the Queen's Messenger from Osborne, in accordance with the request of Secretary Sir Edward Bulwer Lytton.
