Hammond informs Merivale that the Foreign Officeconcurs with Labouchere that Douglas’s proceedings regarding the US Navy’s request of landing Eighty-Seven Indian Prisoners was correct.
The minutes make a note to write to Douglasaccordingly.

Ultimo, inclosing a Copy of a Despatch from the Governor of Vancouver's Island, reporting the arrival in Puget's Sound of the officer commanding
the United States' Naval Forces, for the purpose of landing Eighty-Seven
Indian Prisoners, and I am to request that you will state to Mr
Secretary Labouchere that Lord Clarendon concurs in his opinion that the
proceedings of Governor Douglason
on the occasion in question should be
approved.
