Ward forwards to Hawes, for the information of Grey, House Copies of extracts on the subject of Vancouver Island.

In the minutes, Blackwood asks if the extracts were for the House of Commons, and Merivale refers Hawes to the Cunard's proposal on coal reserves.

Extracts of certain Dispatches relative to Vancouvers Island,

The Papers have been enclosed in the return to Ho of Commons, a second copy of them having been promised from the Admiralty.

I am commanded by my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to transmit to you for the information of the Earl Grey, Copies of the Correspondence required, so far as this Department can supply the same.

Mr Hawes
You will observe that these papers contain a proposal of Mr Cunard's that the coal should be reserved to the Crown, which Ld Grey said "should be considered" — in point of fact the coal has not been reserved. I merely mention this, but do not suppose it could operate to prevent the printing of these Letters, which are specially asked for. They are at the end of this collection.
