Public Offices document Ley, J. H. to [Recipient not known.] 14 August 1848, CO 305:1, no. 1589, 289.
Abstract
Public Offices document.
Minutes (3), Marginalia (6).
A printed resolution, signed by Ley, to the House of Commons requests Her Majesty to give directions on several correspondences related to Vancouver Island, which Ley lists.
In the minutes, Blackwood notes his surprise that some of the documents in question
have been included in the request, given their secret & confidential status.
That an humble Address be presented to Her Majesty, that She will
be graciously pleased to give directions that there be laid before this
House, Copies of a Despatch to the Admiralty, from Rear Admiral Sir
George Seymour, dated Her Majesty's ship Collingwood, Valparaiso, the
8th day of February 1847:
Of a Despatch from Commander Gordon, dated Her Majesty's Steam
sloop
And, of the Instructions sent by the Admiralty to the Commanding
Officer, or any other Officer on the Pacific Station, relative to the
Coals in Vancouver's
Mr Elliot.
The documents mentioned in the 3d & 4th Paragraphs are secret &
confidential Papers—which I have never seen, & which I should have
thought there wd have been some objection to producing. The other
requisitions should I suppose, be forwarded to the Admiralty to comply with.
