from the Foreign Office enclosing copies of correspondence with Her
Majesty's Minister at Washington

I have communicated to Earl Granville a Copy of your Confidential
Despatch of the 11th October, and I have suggested to his Lordship that
if a Copy is forwarded to Sir E. Thornton it will be desirable that he
should be instructed not to allude to the letter from the United States
War Office of the 30th April, enclosed in your Despatch, in any
communication he may make to the United States Government.
