Sir,
With reference to your letter of December last, in which my
application for an extension of leave was refused,
I have the
honor to inform you that as I found it impossible to return from
Canada in time to report myself before the expiration of my
leave, I
have no option but to tender my resignation of my post
as Clerk to the Gold Commissioner of the Columbia District, in
the Colony of British Columbia.
