Sir,
I am commanded by my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to acquaint you, for the information of Earl Granville, that Rear-Admiral Farquhar in a letter dated at San Francisco 1st April 1870 No 37, reports that affairs in Vancouver's Island remain quiet, Parliament has opened on the 15th February, & little opposition existed as to the Confederation scheme. He further states, that the recently discovered Gold Fields on the Peace River, will, it is believed, attract a largenumberManuscript image number of immigrants from California.
