In reply to your letter of the 24th instant, I am directed by The Earl of Clarendon to transmit to you, in compliance with your request, three copies of the Convention respecting San Juan which was recently signed by Lord Clarendon and the United States Minister at this Court.
I am, however, to request that you will state to Earl GranvillethatManuscript image that Lord Clarendon would suggest that this Convention should not be sent, as proposed by Lord Granville, to the Governors of Canada and British Columbia, until it is known what decision the Government of the United States have come to in regard to it.
