Seymour encloses a report from Young, contradicting Lowenberg’s statement that British Columbia’s colonial government intends to dispute Lowenberg’s claim to Lot Z. Seymour comments on the issue of Lot Z and states that Lowenberg was informed that the Colonial Government withdrew all claim to the Lot in question.Cox’s minute suggests contacting the Hudson's Bay Company, L & E Commissioners, and Young.
No. 116
Victoria
4th November 1868
My Lord Duke,
I have had the honor to receive Your Grace's despatch No. 56 of
the 28th July, referring to a statement made by a Mr
Lowenbergthat that he had been told that the Local Government would
continue to dispute his title to Lot Z in the town of Victoria.
Mr Lowenberg states that his informant was no less an
authority than the Acting Colonial Secretary.
2. I enclose a report from Mr Young on the subject
and would merely say that I had much rather take his word
than that of Mr Lowenberg on any subject.
3. This case is one of thosepeculiar peculiar to Vancouver Island which are
handed down from one Governor to Another for settlement.
However Mr Lowenberg was informed on the 1st October that
the Colonial Government withdrew all claim to the Lot in
question. Nothing more can be done. I presume that he is now
satisfied.
I have the honor to be,
My Lord Duke,
Your Grace's most obedient
humble Servant Frederick Seymour
