I have had the honor to receive Your Grace's despatch No. 48 of
the
13 July, informing me that Her Majesty's Government
are
are unable to furnish any pecuniary assistance to
British Columbia.
2. I shall of course make my arrangements and frame my
proposals to the Legislature in accordance with this decision,
but I may perhaps respectfully venture to say that I regret it
in the present state of affairs on the Pacific Coast. A little
favour on the part
of of the Mother Country towards this Colony
would not I think have been thrown away.
