Sir,
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your Despatch No. 13
of the 4th of January last. I approve of the measures you have taken
for admitting, free of duty, articles properly Certified to be the
growth of the Island of San Juan.

The question of San Juan is now under the consideration of Her
Majesty's Government, who will not lose sight of the desirableness of
inducing the Government of the United States to agree upon some method
of settling the right to the Island.
