Watson states that Seymour did not offer Watson a position in British Columbia of equal emolument to Watson’s previous position. The included document is a reply to Watson’s letter and the letter’s claims.

Sir,
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch dated the 21st instant reminding me, in reply to my letter of the 3rd instant, that another appointment, in the Colony, with the same emolument that I was previously receiving, was offered to me by the Governor of British Columbia at the time of the abolition of my office and that I declined it.
In reply, I have respectfully to request that you will acquaint His Grace the Secretary of StateManuscript image that no appointment of equal emolument to that which I was receiving previous to the abolition of my office was ever offered to me by the Governor of British Columbia.
