In reply to Your letter of 27th ultmo respecting the
intention of my Son Henry R.L. Morgan late Lieut 40th foot to
settle in Vancouver Island or British Columbia, I beg to state, that
he left home with that intention & sailed on 2nd ultmo for
those Colonies before he received the necessary Certificate of
Service from The Horse Guards, to submit to His Grace the Duke of
Buckingham & Chandos to request a grant of land there.
He desired that letters for him should be directed to Post
Office Victoria, Vancouver Island; where any so directed will I am
satisfied be sure to reach him.
I know that he was most anxious to obtain a grant of land, & to
settle in either of these Colonies.
P.S. Your letter, though very plainly directed was missent to
Llangollen.

Upon this letter we may I suppose venture to send the Horse Guards
letter of the 26 March to the Govr with a Copy of the
correspondence and request him to take the necessary steps to enable
Lieut: Morgan to obtain the grant of land to which the Regulations
entitle him?
Adderley to Morgan, 15 May 1867, advising the certificate would
be forwarded to the governor with a request that he would take steps
to ensure Lieutenant Morgan received the grant of land to which he
was entitled.
Draft reply, Buckingham to Seymour, No. 26, 17 May 1867 supporting Lieutenant Morgan’s claim to a grant of land in the colony of British
Columbia or Vancouver Island.
