                  ultimo, relating to the conveyance of Mails between 
San Francisco
               and 
British Columbia, I am directed by the Lords Commissioners of
               
Her Majesty's Treasury to transmit to you, for the information of
               the 
Duke of Buckingham, the enclosed copy of a letter from the
               Postmaster General relating to this subject,
and
 and I am desired to
               state that My Lords concur in opinion with the 
Duke of Montrose that
               it would not be advisable on postal grounds to incur on the part of
               the Imperial Government the considerable expenditure which the
               establishment of a subsidized line of British Packets between
               
Panama and 
British Columbia would involve.
