Sir,

I am directed by Mr. Secretary Cardwell to transmit to you a Copy of a letter from Mr. James Churchill applying on behalf of Mr. Alfred Waddington for certain consessions to enable him to complete the construction of the Bute Inlet Road in British Columbia.

I am also to enclose a Copy of a Despatch addressed to you in the Colony of the 23rd of September last relative to a Petition from Mr. Waddington praying for compensation for losses he had sustained.

I am to request that you will inform Mr. Cardwell whether you have sufficient information in this Country to be able to furnish the materials for an answer to Mr. Churchill's present

application.
