Sir,
I have had the honor to receive your letter of the 16th
instant. You enquire why the small sum of £958.11.4 appears
in the Treasurer's returns for the quarter ended 31 March 1865
under the head of "Revenue from Collectors," the amount in previous
quarters having beenmuch
much more considerable.

I regret that I cannot furnish the required information, but
I have the pleasure of stating that the Customs receipts for the
first half of the year 1865 were £27,836.14.9 against
£26,139.15.5 in the corresponding portion of 1864.

that Mr Cardwell wrote to ask Mr Seymour who was in this Country
whether he could throw any light upon the subject and enclose a
copy of his answer. State that an inquiry will be forwarded to the
Acting Governor at the first opportunity.
