Sir,
I have the honor to forward an Authenticated and two plain Copies of an Ordinance of the recent Session of the Legislature of this Colony, entitled; No. 14. An OrdinancetoManuscript image to amend and consolidate, the Gold Mining laws. I add the Report of the Attorney General.
2. This Ordinance had its origin in a conversation between the Mining Board of Cariboo and myself on William's Creek. In the Winter the Mining Board had many consultations with me on the subject. Its many details have been carefully considered by those most competent to the task. The enclosed Ordinance istheManuscript image the result. I entrusted its introduction in the Council to Mr Walkem, a barrister selected by the people of Cariboo East for appointment to the Council. The Bill occupied more time and required more attention than any other measure of the Session.
