Abstract
Despatch from London.
Cardwell acknowledges receipt of Douglas’s despatch and informs Seymour that he read with much satisfaction an address included with the despatch from a Deputation on the close of [Douglas’s] Government of British Columbia expressive of their appreciation of the merits of public Services, and of the manner in which he had conducted the Affairs of the Colony.

I have to acknowledge the receipt of your Predecessor's Despatch marked Separate of the 13th of April last. I have read with much satisfaction the address presented to Sir James Douglas by a Deputation on the close of his Government of British Columbia expressive of their appreciation of the merits of hisManuscript image public Services, and of the manner in which he had conducted the Affairs of the Colony.
