Sir,
With reference to the letter addressed to you by Order of This Board on 9th June last, I am commanded by the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury to transmit to you the enclosed copies of the Bond executed by Mr C.W. Franks in the sum of £2000 as Treasurer of British Columbia, and of the Bond in a like amount fromtheManuscript image the European Assurance Society, and I am to request you to move Mr Secretary Cardwell to communicate the same to the Governor of British Columbia for his information and guidance.
The Governor will observe that in the event of any default on the part of the Treasurer, a Certificate under his hand will be required in respect of such default, so far as regards the Bond of the Assurance Society.
He will also observe that theliabilityManuscript image liability of the Society does not extend to any substitute that may be appointed in Mr Franks' place while on leave. It will therefore be necessary to take care that security should be given by the Acting Officer on the occasions of the absence of the Treasurer from his duty.
