The inhabitants wished to make manifest their loyalty to
Her Majesty and attachment to the Mother Country by
welcoming welcoming
with some ceremony their new Governor. I was therefore
requested to remain for some few days in the neighbouring
Colony of
Vancouver's Island while a sufficient number of
arches and other decorations were being prepared to ornament
the streets. I had every reason to be satisfied with the
cordiality of my reception.
I enclose copies of addresses presented to
me me by the
Municipal Council of
New Westminster and by the people of
that town with my replies.
