I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your Despatch
marked "Separate" of the 30th July last, and to express my regret
that the sums therein mentioned as having been advanced from the
Contingent Fund of the Colonial Department on account of Stamps
on Warrants, should not have been, 'ere this, repaid to the Chief
Clerk of the Department.
On
2. On the 12th February 1862, I caused instructions to
be sent to the Agents General to repay these sums, and I presume
the matter must have been overlooked. I will however again
address the Agents General on the subject, and I trust that the
debt may be speedily discharged.
I have the honor to be
My Lord Duke
Your Grace's most obedient
and humble Servant James Douglas
