Abstract
Despatch from London.
Carnarvon acquaints Douglas that the British government has been considering the issue of a regular postal service between San Francisco and British Columbia, and that the Treasury intends to issue tenders for service to be performed fortnightly between San Francisco, Victoria, and Fort Langley.

Sir,
I have to acquaint you that Her Majesty's Government have had under their consideration the necessity of endeavouring to procure a regular Postal Service between San Francisco and British Columbia, and that in connection with this subject they have had before themManuscript image the tender made by Mr Edward Stamp to enter into a contract for this service. The Lords Commissoners of the Treasury, however, are of opinion that there are no sufficient reasons in the present instance for departing from the principal of competition and they are therefore about to issue advertisement for tenders for this service to be performed fortnightly between San Francisco, Victoria and Fort Langley.
