I have laid before the Lords Commissioners of Her
Majesty's Treasury your letter of the
17 June last
transmitting accounts of the stores supplied by the War
Department for the use of the Royal Engineers in
British
Columbia and I am instructed to acquaint you for the
information of the
Duke of Newcastle that they have given
directions to the Paymaster General to transfer from the
Parliamentary Grant for
British Columbia to the account of
Army Services the sum of twelve thousand one hundred and
forty three pounds and four shillings (£12.143.4.0)
in repayment of the value of those Stores.
Their Lordships observe that several
of these Stores
are stated to have been purchased by
Colonel Moody. They
presume that that Officer was duly authorized to purchase
the same, and that they are distinct from those in respect
to which the sums of £3000 and £3,400 were issued to
him as requested by your letters of
24 September and
26
October last.
