Hamilton informs Lytton that the Treasury will pay for expenses drawn by Royal Engineers stationed at British Columbia.
The minutes discuss whether to put by or not as all matters of finance will be under review in due time.

Sir,
In reply to your letter of 10th Instant, I am commanded by the Lords Commissoners of Her Majesty's Treasury to acquaint you, for the information of Sir E. Bulwer Lytton, that they will direct the Paymaster General to accept and pay such Bills as may be drawn by the Governor of British Columbia, for the necessary expenses of the Royal Engineers who have been sent to the Colony, these expenses to be considered as advances, to be repaid in the event of the Colony being able to defrayManuscript imagedefray the charge.
Sir E. Bulwer Lytton will probably receive from British Columbia, before the termination of the present Session, sufficient information to enable him to determine whether it will be necessary to submit a Vote to Parliament for any portion of these Expenses.

I have read this correspondence. Nothing appears required on this letter at this moment, and it may, I apprehend, be put by. All the questions of British Columbia finance will come under review simultaneously when the time arrives for determining the amount of the Parliamentary Estimate.
