I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of Your Grace's
Despatch No 7 of the 26th July, in reference to a joint letter
from the Treasurer and Collector of Customs, representing the
inadequacy of their salaries.
2. I observe your Grace's decision

expression of your readiness to entertain any proposal which I
shall make for the general increase of the salaries of Public
Officers in the Colony of British Columbia, whenever the Colonial
Revenue will bear such additional burthen, and agreeable to
Your Grace's instructions I have communicated those particulars
