Douglas reports that the has announced by Proclamation Her Majesty's decision and that the Town heretofore known
as Queensborough shall, in
pursuance of Her Majesty's pleasure, be henceforth called the
City of New Westminster, and he forwards a Victoria Gazette copy of said proclamation.
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your Despatch
of the 5th May last, No 61, conveying to me Her Majesty's
Commands as to the designation to be conferred upon the capital
of British Columbia.
2. I have announced by Proclamation Her Majesty's decision
and that the Town heretofore knownknown as Queensborough shall, in
pursuance of Her Majesty's pleasure, be henceforth called the
City of New Westminster.
3. I forward herewith a copy of the Victoria Gazette,
containing the Proclamation in question.
4. I beg you will offer to Her Most gracious Majesty our
dutiful acknowledgements for Her kindness and consideration in
according to our wishes in this matter.
