Willis informs the Under-Secretary of State that passage to British Columbia for Captain Grant, his family, and twelve Royal Engineers has been arranged for the Contract Mail Steam Packet leaving Southampton.

The minute writes immediately to Colonel Moody to enquire accordingly.

Enclosed is a draft from Merivale to Moody requesting description of stores required by Grant; and a draft from Merivale to the Secretary to the Admiralty requesting orders for contract passages Captain Grant and party.

Sir,

I beg to acquaint you, for the information of the Secretary of State in answer to your Letter of the 11th Instant 1 that passage to Colony for Captain and Mrs Grant, one child, a Servant, and twelve men of the Royal Engineers has been ordered on board the Contract Mail Steam Packet, which will leave Southampton on the 17th Instant: and I request that you will be pleased to specify the quantity and description of the stores which will accompany this party, as soon as practicable.
