I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your
Despatch No 18 of the 4th September
last,

at the instance of the Earl of Malmesbury Copy of a note
from the French Ambassador stating the Circumstancesunder
under which the French Government are desirous that
Mons. Rousset should be recognized as French Consular
Agent at Victoria Vancouver's Island, and also
Conveying your instructions to recognize Mons. Rousset
in that Capacity on his arrival in the Colony.
