This font comparison shows similarities and differences between various free fonts and UVic's proprietary font choice, Myriad Pro.

• CartoGothic is the best alternative, but note the dot over the lower case i (it's square), and the capital M (it's more vertical than Myriad). The font is also generally a bit heavier than Myriad.
• PT Sans Caption is pretty good, but note particularly the lower case a, d, and g.
• Droid Sans is barely acceptable, with too many general issues to give it anything other than last place in a CSS cascade.

Here is a real world use: UVic shield in svg (using the object tag), and plain text for the textual bit. The first one uses Myriad Pro if installed on client machine, with a fallback to CartoGothic if it isn't. The second one just uses CartoGothic. They will obviously appear identical if you don't have Myriad installed.
