Description:

Come and be challenged by the beautiful Olympic View Golf Course, twenty minutes from the City with a beautiful panoramic view of the Olympic Mountains. This golf course has gained the reputation as one of Canada's most challenging and most beautiful courses.

Van departs from the UVic Housing check-in office at 8:30 am for a 9:30 am play start; bus leaves for campus at 3:00 pm. Program includes golf, lunch and return transportation; equipment rentals are not included.

Registration is limited.

Title:

Goldstream Park and Forest

Time:

Monday 10:00 to 2:00

Description:

A great opportunity for families to visit one of Vancouver Island's magnificent old growth forests and learn about these trees and their life cycles from an experienced field guide Erica Hargraves. During the guided walk, you will hike up Mount Finlayson to enjoy a bag lunch and a panoramic view of southeast Vancouver Island mountains and sea scapes. You will also visit the Nature House to view the exhibits and the Natural History Book Shop. Bus leaves from the Housing check-in area at 10:00 am and returns at 2:00 pm; bag lunch included. Please register early.

Beacon Hill Park Walk

Time:

Description:

Spend the day at this magnificent park overlooking the straits of Juan de Fuca and the US Olympic Mountains. With Erica Hargraves, an experienced guide, you will visit a BC Aboriginal Midden site and learn about some traditional uses of plants by BC Aboriginals. You will also visit the zoo and petting area, the fabulous gardens and have time to explore the sea shore and learn about some of the weird and wonderful creatures living under rocks, on rocks, etc.

Bus leaves from the Housing check-in area at 10 am and returns at 2:00 pm; bag lunch included. Please register early.

Royal British Columbia Museum

Time:

Description:

The RBCM enjoys the reputation of being one of the finest museums in North America with its renowned natural and human history exhibits and an extensive collection of BC Aboriginal art. Participants will have a guided tour through Old Town with its compelling train station whistle stop and 18th century shops and hotel. They will experience the interactive excitement of the natural history displays and visit the Museum Gift shop, featuring works of renowned local artists. Following the visit to the RBCM, participants will be able to shop or visit additional sights until the bus returns to campus. Bus departs from Housing Check-in area at 10:30 am and returns at 2:30 pm. Lunch on own.

Title:

Sidney Spit Ocean Park

Time:

Thursday 10:00 to 4:00

Description:

You will experience an exciting ferry ride to the ecological reserve of Sidney Spit on Sidney Island and see seabird such as marbled murrelets, pigeon guilmonts and rhinoceros auklets, as well as seals and porpoises en route. On the island, with experienced guide Erica Hargraves, you will take a guided walk to a BC Aboriginal Midden site, will learn about the island's introduced species such as fallow deer and explore the mud flats of the lagoon. Bring along a bathing suit and towel to relax on the sunny beaches, or swim in the island's warm waters. Bus leaves from the Housing check-in area at 10:00 am and returns at 4:00 pm; bag lunch included.

Title:

Horseback Riding at Woodgate Stables

Time:

Friday 10:30 to 2:30

Description:

Participants will enjoy an afternoon of horseback riding lessons and trail riding at Woodgate Stables, overlooking the ocean on the Saanich Peninsula.

A two hour trail ride through the forests and along the beaches will be followed by a visit to the petting zoo with "Rolf" the Llama and many other farm animals. The MacFeeley Manor House Gallery offers original works of local artists. Wear jeans, boots and a hat. Bring a jacket. Bus departs from the Housing check-in at 10:30 am and returns at 2:30 pm. Lunch included.

Chinatown Walk

Time:

Saturday 9:00 to 1:00

Description:

Your guide will share the culture, history and architecture of the oldest Chinese community in Canada. Three religious shrines, not open to the public, are included on the tour. The tour includes lunch in Chinatown; the tour is not wheelchair accessible. Comfortable footwear required. Trip departs from the Housing check-in area at 9:00 am and returns at 1:00 pm.
