Pipe Office, Works: entries among payments relating to works carried out at Whitehall in the Declared Accounts of the Paymaster of the Works, Andrew Kerwyn , from 1 Oct. 1607 to 31 March 1609. Jonson 's description of the throne of Beauty corresponds to the description of the 'greate throne of Cantes' in this MS. (A note about the making of a three-foot high stage in the Queen 's Dancing Chamber is omitted.)

making a greate nomber of Degrees on either syde of the Banquetting house both belowe and in the galleries aboue making of a greate Stage fower foote highe from the grounde vpon Trestles, making a great hall vnder the king es state and making a greate Throne of Cantes borne in the middest by a greate piller with diverse wheeles and Devices for the moving rounde thereof frayming and setting vp of a great stage iiijer foote highe whereon the same frame was placed

Fraiming and setting vp a greate stage for a Maske all the height of the Banquettinghouse with a floore in the midle of the same being made with sondry devices with greate gates and turning Doores belowe and a globe and sondry seates above for the Queene and Ladies to sitt on and to be turned rounde aboute, fraiming and setting vp of a halfepace vnder the king es state and a greate nomber of Degrees on bothe sides of the said house with railes before the same and taking downe thereof after the maske was ended &c
