Petition of William George , Clerk of the King 's Wardrobe, to Richard, Lord Weston, and Francis, Lord Cottington , against George Kirke , Gentleman of the Wardrobe. The petition probably dates from March 1632, and refers to Christmas 1630-1 and Christmas 1631-2. It appears on the recto of a single unfolded sheet. Some of the money mentioned here relates to Aurelian Townshend's Albion's Triumph (1632).

To the right honourable Richard Lord Weston, lord Tr easurer of England ; and Francis Lord Cottington Chauncellor of his Majesties Exchequer.

The humble peticion of William George Clarke of his
Majesties Wardrobes, & Robes.

Humblie shewing vnto your honnors That George Kirke Esquire Gentleman of the Robes haueing from Michaelmas 1630 to Michaelmas last past, being by the space of one yeare, receiued 5000li by way of aduance, for the defraying of the expenses of his Majesties Robes and Apparrell, whereof he is to make a perticuler Accompt, according to such direccions as is prescribed by his Majestie vnder his royall signature; But the said Mr Kirke refuseth to deliuer to your Petitioner the billes of empcions for that yeare wherevpon the Accompt may be made vp, That it may appeare what the said Mr Kirke hath iustly disbursed of the said somme of 5000li to his Majesties vse, and how much remaineth in his handes as by his Majesties direccion; and all Law, and iustice he ought to doe: And also the said Mr Kirke hath receiued other sommes besides the said 5000li by way of Imprest vpon Accompt towards the defraying of the expenses of two maskes, one performed at xpmas 1630 thother at xpmas last For which the said Mr Kirke hath not yet deliuered to your Petitioner the billes of the perticuler disbursmentes, whereby an Accompt thereof may be made that it may likewise appeare how those moneis haue ben iustly expended to his Majesties vse, and what part thereof remaineth in his hands.

Your Petitioner according to his bounden dutie, most humbly desireth your honnors to take such order on his Majesties behalf, that the said Mr Kirke,may forthwith deliuer vnto ys supplicant the billes of his particuler disbursmentes Concerning the premises, that the Accompts thereof may be clerely made vp according to Law^ ⎡E⎤ and his Majes ties direccions in that behalf; And that no moneis may be issued to the said Mr Kirke, concerning the Robes, vntill the said billes be deliuered in, and examined: and the Accomptes made vp Accordingly And he shall daily pray for your Lordships.
