Preparations for the masque, mentioned in a dispatch sent home by the Tuscan agent,
Amerigo Salvetti
, on 17 [i.e. 7] Dec. 1620. The dispatch belongs to a parchment bound collection of
letters written between 3 Oct. 1620-19 Dec. 1625. It occupies four pages in a single
folded sheet (extract on p. 3).
Il Principe Carlo eí anche egli in campagna col Re suo padre, et se bene sbattuto
da questa cattiva nuova, mette in ogni modo in ordine uní balletto In compagnia del
S ignor marchese di Bucchingam per questo natale, ma piuí per osservare il corso ordinario
et annuale, che per altro suo genio.

Prince Charles
is also in the country with the king
his father. Although he is shaken by this bad news [of the king
's illness], he is arranging a masque with the Marquis of
Buckingham
for this Christmas, more to follow the usual custom than for his own pleasure.
