the king requires a great loan of monie from the citie, which they are faine to put of with a voluntarie guift of 10000li meaning to sell part of their plate, and forbeare their vsuall feasts and meetings till they haue raised that summe: yt seeming hard to them, (besides the forbearing of a 100000li for which they haue neither had interest nor principall almost these fowre yeares, and besides a beneuolence this sommer to Bohemia, and a parlement so neere at hand) to haue this charge layed vpon them. and yet for all this penurie there is monie geuen out and preparation made for a maske at court these holy-dayes.
