[fol. 56v]
the king requires a great loan of monie from the citie,
which they are faine to put of with a voluntarie guift
of 10000li meaning to sell part of their plate, and forbeare their
vsuall feasts and meetings till they haue raised that summe: yt seeming hard to them,
(besides the forbearing of a 100000li for which they
haue neither had interest nor principall almost these fowre yeares, and besides a
beneuolence this sommer to Bohemia, and a parlement so neere at hand) to haue this
charge layed vpon them. and yet for all this penurie there is monie geuen out and
preparation made for a maske at court these
holy-dayes.
