Marco Antonio Correr on 31 [i.e. 21] Dec. 1610. The dispatch, numbered 55, occupies
pp. 356-363 (extract on p. 356). The Embassy referred is Marshal de Laverdin, on a
mission to sign a treaty with

Le mascherate che la Serenissima Regina, et il Principe uanno essercitando, et preparando sono particolarmente dricciate
per honorar quell’ Ambasciata, la quale è stata fatta cader industriosamente in questi giorni solenni della Natiuità
di nostro Signore per hauer maggior occasione di accarezzar il Maresciale, e di trattenere li gentil
huomini, che saranno seco con le feste solite farsi in Corte a’ questi tempi: ne’
si lasciarà di procurargli per ogni uia qual si uoglia sodisfattione cosi’ per corrispondere
alli molti fauori, che riceue’ il Baron Woton in Francia, come perche pare, che al presente si attende a’ coltiuar l’ amicitia
di quella Corona con maggior studio, che si ha fatto in altri tempi.
Translation
The masques, which Her Highness the
Queen
and
the Prince
are preparing, are particularly intended to honour this embassy. They were purposely
designed to fall at Christmas time, so as to provide more opportunities for flattering
the Marshal and for entertaining the gentlemen who will come with him to the usual
festivals, which take place at court at this time of year. Everything will be done
to please him, partly because they want to return the favours that
Lord Wotton
was heaped with in
France
, and also it seems that at present they want to cultivate the friendship of
France
with greater diligence than hitherto.
