A feaw daies since 13. of the best Monnied: Men of this Cittie, to whom his Majestie is in debt, were sent for to
Whitehall
; where my Lord Treasure r tould them, theyre Interestes should be readily paid them, and prayed them to forbear
theyre principall for a while longer, and withall to lende what more they could presently furnish upon good securetie; but they could not be induced to any further Loane,
nor uery willingly to forbear that which is allready out of theyre handes, any longer then needes they must. Since, ^ ⎡some
of⎤ the Exchecquers Officers haue ben dealling with diuerse Cittizens in particular, to lende upon priuate secureties; but theyre motions had
uery smale effects. Here is now
10
4000l: more of Crown Lande sett to sale; but I see no undertakers ready to entertaine
the bargain, upon so shortt daies of payment
[fol. 1v]
as are required; so as I thinke my Lord will be in some paine, euen to furnish the expence of the approaching feast; yet
doth
the Prince
make but one Masque: and the
Queen
but twoe, which doe ^
cost
her Majestie but 600l neither do I see any likelihood of any further extraordinary expence
that this Christmas will bring.
