. The letter occurs on fols. 64, 64v, and 65. Fol. 65v has subscription
[fol. 64v]
the busynes of our hoame Common wealth doth whollie occupie our
cogitaciones, whereof a prynccipall care is to geiue contentment to the Prynce who
nowe
beginneth to take a great aucthoritie uppon him, and expecteth to have his Creation
procead at Candlemas next at what tyme he will have accomplished the
Age of sixteene yeares.
He is com to whitehall, and is nowe
busye to prepare himself there for his exercise of the Barryers, where he hath chosen
for assistantes with him; as Challengers, against the defendantes, the
Duke of Lenox
of
The Lordes of Arondell, and Southampton Si r Thomas Somersett, and
Sir Rychard Preston. It is sayd that the
nomber of the defendantes wilbe 24, to be proportioned
some for each of the Challengers to deale with. It is sayd also that at
the Prynces enstalement there wilbe a creation of some noblemen, among the
which my lord Chancelor is named to be an Earle.
