Dopo la partenza del Signo r Don Fernando di Girona Ambasciatore Straordinario Cattolico, s’ e’ fatta la mascherata della Maesta’ della Regina, alla
quale e’ intervenuto andare il Signo r Ambasciatore di Francia, et la moglie, certo con molto fauore. Perche per la contesa della precedenza
non si poteua chiamare andar detta festa l’ ambasciato r di Venetia, et quel di Fiandra insieme, nerun di loro vi e’ stato chiamato, et
quel di Uenetia se ne debbe essere un poco risentito in questo, che gia’ fusse sparsa
uoce, che egli n’era chiamato in compagnia del sopranominato di Francia.
Translation
After the departure of Don Fernando de Giron, the Spanish ambassador extraordinary,the
Queen
’s masque was performed. The French ambassador and his wife attended, and were very
welcome. Because of the dispute about precedence, the Venetian and Flemish ambassadors
could not both be asked to attend. Neither of them was invited, and the Venetian ambassador
was a little upset; rumours were already spreading that he had not been invited together
with the aforementioned French ambassador.
