Continuando pure le instanze de gli Ambasciatori di Spagna, e de gli Arciduchi di essere ammessi al balletto della Illustrissima Regina la quale<Corte>pubblico’, che Sue<Maesta’>haueuano risoluto, che ui interuenissimo il Signo r Ambasciato r di Francia, et io, e ne fossimo auuertiti da molti di quelli, che hanno l’ orrecchie
del Re’, cred’io per leuar con questa publicatione la speranza agli altri. et ho saputo,
che sua Maesta’ cercaua di licentiar l’ Ambasciatore estraordinario, et che ne fue auuertita del medesimo la Signora Regina che si mostro’ molto pronta; ma’ non ualendo tutto cio’; poiche l’ Ambasciatore non addimanda licenza ne da’ segno di uoler partire ha’ la Maesta’ sua fatto differir
il balletto, che doueua farsi dimani, sino alli 12 di febraio nel qual giorno secondo
questo costume si celebrera’ la festività della purificatione.<Intanto>il Re’ partira’ martedi’ per Roiston luoco di campagna a’ goder le solite sue caccie.<Fu’>quivi dice l’ Ambasciato re che andra’ a’ trovar Sua Maesta’ per licentiarsi;. Di Londra 15 Genn. 1608
Translation
As the Spanish and Archdukes’ ambassadors continued insisting on invitations to the
Queen
’s masque, the court announced that their Majesties had decided that the French
ambassador and myself should be present. We were informed of this by many of those
who have the King
’s ear. I think this was done to dash the vain hopes of those who wished to be invited.
I learnt that the King
was trying to dismiss the Ambassador-Extraordinary
[
Don Fernandez de Girone
].The
Queen
was informed and she agreed immediately. As this did not work, and the ambassador[
Girone
]neither takes his leave nor shows any signs of going,His Majesty put off the masque,
which was to be tomorrow, till the 12th of February, the Feast of the Purification,
according to their calendar. On Tuesday,the King
will leave for Royston, a country resort, to enjoy himself hunting as usual. The ambassador
says that he will go there to take his leave of the King
.
