Il Re ad istanza del uisconte d’ Edinton suo fauorito per esser quello che seruendolo
di paggio in Scotia ammazzo’ di sua mano due fratelli mentre tentauano di leuare nella
propria camera la uita a sua Maesta’ si e’ fermato questi giorni qui per assistere
come fece innanti hieri alle sue nozze che si sono celebrate in Corte. alle quali
anche ne interuennero l’ Ambasciator di Frantia, et quello dell’ Arciduca se bene quanto a’ quello di Frantia con grande
difficolta’, parendo di pregiudicarsi molto per esser stato cosi’ nel tempo, come
nella sollennita’ postposto a quello di Spagna, ma’ affettando egli d’ altra parte
grandemen te di far apparire la deuotione della nation scocese uerso il suo Re’ da i principali
signori dalle quale si faceua la festa, s’ e’ lasciato alla fine per questo rispetto persuadere
ad interuenirui, et quello dell’ Arciduca non i hauendo (come sono stato certificato doppo) neanco con donatiui di qualche<...> ualore fatti per questa causa alle piu’ confidenti Dame della Regina potuto spontare
d’ esser inuitato al balletto, gli e’ bisognato
di
contentarsi di andar a questo, al quale sono medesimamen te stati chiamati doi gioveni Principi della casa di Sassonia, et parenti della Regina
i quali pochi giorni sono, che per uedere il paese et bacciar le mani alle loro Maesta’
si trouano qui.

The king
, at the invitation of Viscount Haddington
, his favourite - who, when he was his page in
Scotland
slew with his own hand two brothers who were trying to murder the king
in His Majesty’s own apartment - has stayed on here in order to be present at his
wedding, which took place at court the day before yesterday. Although the French
ambassador made great difficulties about it, as he thought that he had been put after
the Spanish ambassador in point of time and in the nature of the function, he was
nonetheless present along with the Archdukes’ ambassador. As he affects to uphold
the devotion of the Scots to his master, and as the great gentlemen of that nation
made the festival, he was persuaded to attend. As I was told afterwards, the Archdukes’
ambassador having failed to obtain an invitation to the masque (though he made handsome
presents for this purpose to the queen
’s principal ladies) ought to be content to go to this[wedding]. Two young Princes
of the House of Saxony, relatives of the
queen
, were also invited. They are here to visit the country for a few days and to pay
homage to their Majesties.
