Quarterage payments (membership dues) by
Jonson
to the Tylers' and Bricklayers'
Company
, 25 April
1599 , in the Quarterage Book for 1588-1616.
Jonson
has paid for two-and-a-half years at the usual rate of four pence per
quarter. An earlier entry (L1596_10_GL) suggests that
Jonson
started by paying only
two pence, or a half-rate, for his quarterage (Edmonds, 1974, 136), so the 'iiijd'
at the beginning of the entry registers the transition to full fee-paying status.
The Quarterage book is a folio-sized record of quarterage payments by guild members.
It is unfoliated and arranged chronologically.
