I need to get my own presentation squared away so I can focus on the workshop and the rest of the planning, so I made a good start today. Beginning and end are done; middle is the complicated bit.
Currently in midst of preparing UVic's required hotel accommodations paperwork for keynote speaker (DJ). Completion of paperwork pending confirmation of second keynote plans.
Meeting to assign all remaining tasks and decide on deadlines. Created the initial list, and typed up the results. SA and JN proofed the booklet, and as a result I made some fixes and changes. Created a placeholder document for the final panel session. Finally, worked on the map to fix tile extent issue and a bug introduced last week.
GN and I between us added lots more places to the conference map, as well as another background OSM layer for zooming away from campus. It's looking good.
Added page numbers, headers, footers, and did some more juggling with style. Mocked up a real-size version of the booklet and went to the printers with it. They initially thought they could not print it because the size was too small, but subsequently found a way to do it, so we're good to go.
Turned the PDF generation into part of the ant build process so that I could call a CLI tool to create the QR codes; they're now working, and even at the small size that's appropriate for the booklet, they work fine. Test-printed and stuck together the booklet with Pat to test how it's working. Decided the sizing is good, but we need running headers for the Overview and Sessions sections.
Weekly meeting and checkin; after discussion, reworked the program so that the sessions have locations and show parallels in the same row.
Got the overview tables working, and after some testing of page and table sizes and discussion with GN, decided on a simpler approach to the session program part; I now have rudimentary output working for this.
A few tweaks (and there will be more to come) on encoding for rendering needs; substantial progress on the program rendering, especially the overview section.
Local committee meeting, with tasks distributed; finished all the interlinking of the schedule, and heard back from the UClub that they're good with it so far; wrote to KT to see if she's OK with it going live.
